Karen and David’s wedding turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far. It felt tropical and, for Scotland, it was amazing and wonderful!
The bride remained cool and elegant in her air-conditioned Rolls-Royce allowing her to concentrate on looking beautiful in her wedding dress. The dress was white with two narrow embroidered navy panels down its full length. It had the classic a-line silhouette with a train which showed off Karen’s already slim figure. She carried an elegant bouquet of purple orchids which the mother of the bride took as her theme, wearing purple for her outfit.
Karen matched her two bridesmaids’ dresses to the navy.
Scottish traditions
The weather was tropical (for a change) but the customs of a Scottish wedding were all there including a piper who piped all the guests in and out of the ceremony. Even better, Karen and David observed an old tradition which I love. They had a scramble. When I was a child, we called it a “scrammle”. It means the same delightful thing. What is it? It is the tradition of throwing coins out of your wedding car to the neighbours’ children. Then they “scramble” to pick up the coins. We only see it at a minority of weddings these days – I don’t know why.
Special Memories
The other aspect of Karen’s wedding which I will always remember is the way in which she commemorated her grandparents who have all, sadly, passed away. In keeping with tradition, Karen wore something blue in the shape of a blue garter. Into that, she tucked two photos – one of each set of grandparents.
Like all weddings, the magical day flew in and for us left in Scotland the tropical weather was gone the next day. Lucky Karen and David had booked themselves some more on their honeymoon in Cuba.
